Based on Facts On File's print references, this database offers biographies of thousands of world authors, detailed information on literary works, a guide to over 35,000 major and minor literary characters, and a glossary of literary terms. Within these categories, users can search more specifically: by time period, by author type (such as poet or short story writer), by literary genre, and by using an alphabetical list. Entries on literary works explain "key plot points, major themes, social context, and literary importance"; there are also articles on literary movements and groups, with information on historical context, and different featured authors (e.g., Ernest Hemingway) each month, along with Web links. All in all, a valuable, easy-to-use resource for high school or larger public libraries. Paula Rohrlick, KLIATT
